MISSION Carolinas School of Ministry is dedicated to meeting the academic needs of men and women seeking ministerial ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. The 24-course program at CSM is approved by Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs and the Department of Pastoral Ministries at Nazarene Headquarters in Kansas City. CSM serves primarily the Church of the Nazarene in North and South Carolina. FORMAT Classes are designed to meet for three weekend sessions during a 3-month period for approximately 12 hours each weekend. As a general guide, students may expect class sessions to meet Fridays from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Locations vary with each course; however, primary locations include: SC District Office in Columbia, Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Charlotte, NC, and the Raleigh area of North Carolina.
FACULTY All CSM faculty hold a masters degree or higher. The basic course guideline and text book selection is provided by Nazarene Bible College. CSM is governed by a board of directors representing both Districts (NC and SC), elected at their District Assemblies. COSTS There is a $10 registration fee per semester. Tuition is $160 per course if paid by 30 days before the first class session. Late registration cost is $175. Payment of the tuition and registration fee is expected at the time of application. Additional expenses may include travel, food, lodging, and textbooks. The textbooks are made available for purchase at the initial class session. GRADING POLICY The grading scale is derived from Nazarene Bible College policy and will appear in the course syllabus. The CSM Office will forward final grades to the District ministerial Studies Board secretaries of the North and South Carolina Districts. Grades will be issued to the student by the instructor after all assignments have been graded. All course work should be submitted according the the syllabus requirements, but absolutely no later than the final class session. A student may submit a written request for the grade "I" (incomplete) when extenuating circumstances have prevented the completion of all course work. PLEASE NOTE: the student should not assume such request will be granted. The circumstance must be valid and unavoidable. If granted, the student will have 4 weeks from the final class session to complete the work. Failure to do so will result in a final grade of "F". ATTENDANCE POLICY Because the CSM class scheduling is similar to a seminar format rather than weekly class sessions, CSM functions under a "No Absence" attendance policy. Should absence exceed 15% (approximately 6 hours per course) of the standard class time, the student must submit a written request/excuse to the instructor that will be considered by a panel of three persons, the Absence Review Committee, elected by the CSM Board of Directors. Absence from a full weekend session will result in "no credit awarded" unless otherwise directed by the Absence Review Committee. NOTE: Faculty members are not authorized to grant or excuse absences outside of this procedure beyond 15% of the class time. WITHDRAWAL POLICY If a student withdraws from a course before the first session, 50% of the tuition will be refunded. If a student withdraws from a course after the 1st session, $100 of the tuition fee will be retained and the rest will be refunded. After the 2nd session, there will be no refund for withdrawal from the course. AUDIT POLICY The cost to audit a course will be 50% of tuition: $90. No credit toward ordination will be granted for auditing a course. |
